An ACT for establishing the annual Salaries of the Public Officere
of 'Govern(ept, and fur ascertaining and regulating the fees to be
taken by those who by law may be entitld' to.them, througlout the
State.
AFHEREAS it is expedient and necessary that the salaries of
N,  the public omcrs of government should be fixed upon a
regular and permanent footing, during their continuance in office;
and that the fees to be reccived and taken in the public offices, and
by those who by law shall be entitled to the same, may be regulat-
Cd and ascertained, to the end the citizens thereof may know with
certainty the sums they are to pay, and the services to be performed
for such payment:
Be it therejfure enacted by the honorable the Senate and House of
Re/resentative., now mct and sitting in General ARsembly, and by
the authority qfi'e same, That from and after the fifth day of April
next, the annual salaries herein after specified and enumerated,and
n6 others, shall be paid, taken and received by the pUblic officers
of government herein after mentioned, in lieu of all other sum and
sums of moley whatever; any litw, usage or custom to the contra-
Iv thereof in any maner notwithstanding.

The governor,                                           900
Secretary to the govcrnor,                              100
Chief justice, to do equal duty with the associate judges,  800
F'our associate judges, each                            600
Three judges of the court of equity, each               500
Attorney-general, in lieu of all charges against the public,
where persons accused of ofl'ences shall be found guilty, and
shall swear o, or where they shall be acquitted, knd for giv-
ing advice to the governor in matten oftpublic concern,  200
To solicitor-generabs, onc for the northern circmit, and one
for the southern circuit, in lieu of all clarges against the
public, where persons accused of offences shall be found
guilty, and shall swear off, or where they shall be acquitted,
in their respective circuits; for giving advice to the gover-
nor in matters of public concern, and for attending the legis-
lature at their sitting, in order to draw and engross all ich
bills and ordinances as they shall be directed to do by cither
branch of the legisliture, each                       150
