E it e'naeled by the honorable the 'Senate and flouft of Reprefenta-
tives, now met andfitting in General 4ffembly, and by the autho-
rity of the fame, That a tax for the fuims, and in the manner hereinafter  to be rai-
mentioned, fhall be raifed and paid into the public treafury of this itate,
for the ufe and fervice thpreof.
And be itfurther enaded by the authority aforefaid, That the..half of ofonedollarper
one dollar per centum adivalorem fhll be paid inlpecie, or paper medium, cent.advalorem
on all lands granted within this flate, under the feveral regulations here-
inafter expreffed, :that is to fay:
Clafs No. i, Shall(contain alltidelfwamp, of thie firf quality, not gene- onlandsof
rally affeded by the falts or frefhes, which fhall be rated at twenty-fix clas No. .
dollars per acre; all tide fwamp, of theifecond quality, not generally af-
fefed by the falts or frefhes, which fhallbe rated at feventeen dollars per
acre; all tide fwiamp of the third quality, not generally affeded by the
falts or frefhes, which fhall be rated at eight dollars and one half per acre;
all pine barren land, adjoining fach, fwamps, or contiguous thereto, with
refped to the benefit of water carriage, which fhall be rated at two dol-
lars per acre; allprime inland fwamp, cultivated and uncultivated, which
fhall be rated at an average of thirteen dollars per acre; all inland fwamp,
.of thefecond quality, vhich thall be rated at eight dollars and one half
per acre; all inland fwamp, of the third quality, which thall be rated at
four dollars per acre; pine barren land, adjoining or contiguous thereto,
which fhall be ratedat one dollar per acre; and all falt marib, or inland
fwamp, clearly proved to the colleLqors to be incapable of immediate cul-
tivation, which (hall be rated at one dollar per acre.
. Clafs No. 2, Shall comprehend all high river fwamps and low grounds, Clafs No.!.
cultivated and uncultivated, including fuch as are commonly called fecond
low grounds, lying above the flowing of the tides, and as high- up the
country as Snow-Hill, on Savannah river, and tie fork of Broad and
Saluda rivers, on the Congaree, Graves's ford, on the Wateree, and the
