/w(>. 29. AN ACT TO AMEND AN ACT ENTITLED AN ACT TO CREATE A
STNKING FUND. '
SEON 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the
State of North-Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the du-
thority of the same, That the 6th section of the before reci-
ted act be amended to read as follows: After the words,
commissionors of the sinking fund in first and second
line, add or a majority of them.
SiC. 2. Be it farther enacted, That this act shall take ef-
fect from and after its passage. [Rat6-'Z the 18th day of

SLAVES AND FREE NEGROES.
ap. 30. AN Act PROVIDING FOR THE HIRING OUT OF FREE NEGROES IN
CERTAIN CASES.
Mal imposo SECrtIoN 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the
0l.aldtion State qf North-Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the au-
m thority qf the same, That whenever a free negro shall be
convicted of any offence, not capital, hereafter committed,
the court before which he may be tried, shall have power
to sentence such free negro to pay a fine in addition to, or
in place of snch other punishment, or some part thereof, as
may be prescribed by law for his said offence, at the discre-
tion of the court.
Proceeds of SEC. . 2B it further enacted, That the proceeds of hire
'. of any feioo negro who shall ha'e been hired out to pay a
fine imposed upon him, or for such sum as court may ad-
judge to be proper fol' the maintenance of a bastard child
with which he is charged, according to the provisions of
