said owner shall give bond with good suroties in the sum of
five hundred dollars, payable to the Governor of the State
and his successors in office, that the said slave shall honestly
and correctly domean himself whilo he remains in this State,
and not become at county chargo; which bond shall be filed
in the office of the clerk of the court of pleas and quarter ses-
sions of Cumberland county, and may be sued upon in the
name of the governor for the time beimg, to the use of the
county or persons injured by a breach thereof. Ratified
the 16th <ay of February, 1855.]

Chtq. 114. AN ACT TO PREVENT THE OUSTRIcTION OF THE PASSAGE OF FISH
IN THE WATERS OF SOUTH RIVER AND ADAMS2 CREEK.
no~es, &c.   SEc. 1. Be it enacted by the General Aseembly of the State
f lorth-Carolina, and it iA hereby enacted by the authority
qf the sane, That, fron and ater tile passago of this act, it
stall not be lawfid for any person or persons to lay out any
seine or net in the waters of South river and Adam' creek,
and lot the same remain for a longer spaco of time than for-
ty-oight hours, neither shall it be lawful for any person or
persons to crect any weir or hedge across the said river or
creek, or fell trees, or place anj obstruction whatever, or
make .or cause to be made any weir that wili provent the
passage of fish up and down said streams.
PenalIy.    SEC. 2. Be it farther enacted, That any person or persoiim
offending against any of the provisions of this act, shall for-
feit and pay for overy such offence, the sum of fifty dollars,
to be recovered before any justice of the peace of the coII-
ty of Craven, to the use o' the person suing for the same;
and if any slave shall violate any of the provisions of this
act, lie or they shall, on conviciion, before a single justice
of the peace of said county, receive thirty nine lashes on his
or their bare back.
SE0. 3. Be it ,further enacted, That all laws and clauses
of laws coming In conflict with any of the provisions of this,
be and the same are hereby repealed. [Ratited the14th day
of February, 1855.]
