CHAPTER       XVI.
Ail Act to prevent ihe folliigof timber in the water courses of the
county of, Guilford.
Br it enacted by) the General .lssembly' of the State'of North daroli.
na, and it iyltceby enated by the'authority of the sane, That every
person who shall obstruct any of the water courses of the county of
Guilford, by felling timber or throwing logs or 'brush therein, and
permit the samb to rrain in said strbams or water courses 'for the
space of twenty days, shall forfeit and pay the sum'of ten 'dollark
for each and every offence, to lb recovered before a Justice of the
Peace, in' the name, and- for the use of the wardens of the poor of
said county.                   I'
SEC. 11. Be it firther citaoted, That If the Uffence described iii
the foregoing section be ottliiiifted bya'slavc, sthh slav so offen-
ding, shall, on. conviction, before any 'Justice of the Peace, rec6ve
fiteteJn laL'es.'
SEC. 111. Be it further enacted, That it shall be the duty'of the
wardens of the poor, upon inforratioir of the violation of this ict,
forthwith to sue out a warrantagaiiist the offender for the penalty.
SEc. IV. Be it further enacted, That so much of an act, pass-
ed 1831, to prevent the felling of tiiber in IHaw -Rive', and Mair's
Fork, as relates to Guilford, be and the: same is hereby'repealed.
SEC. V. .ie it furller enacted, That this act shall take effect
an4 be in force from and after the first day of June next.
