CIAPTER L XXX An act to incorpm atw the Dorcm Society in Elizabeth CiV. 11e it enacted by the General .Issembly of the State of Aorth Carolinq: wild it is heby enacted by the authority of the same, 'That the Dorcas So ciety in Eliz iwth City, consisting of the following im embers, to wit: Mary Grice, I'hbe S, Williams, Mary Sutton, Mrs. Mesenger, Mrs. Susan Ro- gcrson, Mrs. Posey Days, Mrs. Lamb, Lucretia 'Tisdale, Mrs. Fearing, Mrs Marg.iret Moore, 1r ..Sarah Fe'aring, Nancy CluiFand Clarky G. Bell, .hall tie incorporated utnder the ianme and style of the : Elizabeth City Dorcas Society; and sh.ill %te and be sued, plead and be impleaded, in such name, in the stme manner and under the same rule, and regulations prcscribed for other corp-rations. it. le it further enactd, That the onicers shall con4iat of a treasurer, secretary ai'd thirtee'i tnu.mirs; the sole object of kaid society shall be to aid distressed widows and oilplians; the corporation shiall have liberty, and is hereby empowered to putirchase one acrepof land, and erect suitable build- legs for the object of the society. The society shall be at liberty to receive as Mnany members as it shall deen expedient, under such rules anil regula- tions as it shall think proper. The officers shall be chosen annually on the first Monday in February. 'rThe officers before mentioned sall be author- ised to make addi bye laws for the government of the society as they shall deem proper. Whe'reas it is represented to this General Assembly, that Thoias Day, a free person of' colour, of'good behaviour, residing in this State, hath in- teinrmarried with AqInillu Wilson, a free woman of' colour, aid an inhabitant of the State of Virginia; and whereas the said Thomas Day is desirous to remove hiv said wife into this State; and whereas further, it is represented to this General Assembly that the said Thomas and Aquilla are of good aid exemplary reputation and behaviour: Be it enacted by the General Issemhly of the Slate of North Carolina1 and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, Ihat Aquilla Diy, otherwise called Aquilla Wilson, be, and she is hereby autlorised to corne into, and reside in t i Ratte. IL And be it further enacted, 'hat the said Aquilla Day, otherwise call. Aquilla Wilson, shall not, by coming into anti residting in this State, incur or be subject tQ any of the pains, penalties or liabilities of an act, passed in the year one thousand eight hundred and twenty-six, entitled an act to prevent free persons of colout from migrating into this State, for the good government of sitch persons resident in the State, and for other pur- poses.
