CHAPTER XCIII. An act to repeal an act, passed in the year one th'nsand cight hundred and twenty two) entitled au. act making compensation to the jurors of the Superior and County Courts of. Moore, Carteret and liertie, so far as the same relates to the county of lertie. Be it enacted by the General .lssembly ' the State of Narth- Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the above recited act be, and the same is hereby repealed, so far as respects the county of Bertie. CHIAPTE'lR Xf'IV. An act to amend an act, entitled ant act concetnig the town of Salisbury, passed in the y'car one thousand cighit hundred and twenty two, chapter filty second, and for other purposes. lie it enacted by the General A-ssembly of the State of North-Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the magistrate of police for the town of Salisbury be, and hte is hereby required to receive in each and every year the lists of property and polls liable to taxation withhn the lintits of said town, which said lists the angistrate of police shall in no wise receive, unless upon the oath of the person tendering said list, which said oath the ma- gistrate is authorised to administer. II. Be it farther enacted, That the flist ive working days in March, in e- very year, are hereby established as the titne in which the list of taxable pro- perty within the limits of said town shall I be taken; and it shall be the duty of the magistrate of police to advertise at the court-house door in Salisbury, and four other public places within the linuts of said town, at least ten days before the days herein established, for giving it the lists tf' taxable propertty atd polls, the titne ard place when and whlere he will attend to receive the same. Ill. Be it further enacted, That it shall be the duty of the magitrate of police to deliver to the town constable, or any other constable of Rowan county, withit two days after the time herein before established for taking the list, a copy of tie namnes of the persous who have given in thetr list of taxable property anil polls, together with a warrant, directed to the said constable, commanding him to asncertain and summon every person liable to pay taxes within the linits of said town, and who had failed to tmtke return on the days herein prescribed, to appeal' before said magistrate of police within five days, and make return of his taxable property and polls; and tht constable shall have and receive for the service of said warrant, and making return of the same, with the names of such persons as he shall have summoned thereon endorsed, the sum of twenty cents for each and every person by imn so sum- moned and returned; and tite magistrate of police is hereby atihorised to grant judgment and award execution iagainst such delinquent, inl favour of' the constable, for the sum tf twenty cents, unless paid by the defendant before or at the return of the said warrant: Provided alwaIys, that ont every return so to be mt1ade by the constble, tie tnigistrat of police shall administer to It at oath, in ite following form, to wit: Yoi, A.
