Provided, that this authority shall not extend to a collection fivn those who shall have removed from the county, from the executors or administra- tors ofdeceased persons, or friom those isho will make oath before any justice of the peace ofStokes county, that he or she has paid the same; and under the further provisions, that perons having claims against the said William Iarr, may adduce them as setts off either in full or in part against the taxes which may be demanded of them under this act; which claims adduced as setts off, may be established in alegal way, before any justice of the peace in the coun- ty of Stokes; and that this act shall continue in force for one year, and no long- er. CHAPTER CVI. An actto repeal part of the fourth section of an act, passed in the year 1810, entitled An act to establish the mode of elections, in future, in the countyof fluncombe. Be it enacted by the General .d88semy oftthe Slate of North-Corulina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the smcne, That so mach (if the fourth section of the above recited act, as requires the polls to be kept open at Ahe- ville on Thur'sday till sunset, be, and the same is hereby repealed. II..'ld be it Jirther -cnarted, rhe the polls shall in future be opened at Asheville aforesaid, on Thursday at ten o'clock, A. 1l. and closed at five o'clock, P. Af. any law or usage to the contrary notwithstanding. CHAPTER CVII. An act to incorporate the Mecklenbnrig and Robeson Agricultural Societies. Be it enacted by the General .ssembty of the .late ofjNorth-Carolina,. and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the present members of the Mecklenbarg Agricultural Society, and sach as marbereafter he admitted into the same, b4, and they are hereby condtituted a body corporate and poli- lic, by the style of the Mecklenburg Agricultural society; and by that name shall be capable to sue and be sued,-plead and.b2 impleaded, to receive, en- joy and transfer real and persopal estate; and, further, to make such rules and regulations for the government of said society, as they may think best calcula- ted to promote the welfare of the institution. II. Ind be it further enacted, Thfat the present members of the Robeson A- gricultural Society, and such as may be hereafter admitted into the same,'be, and they are hereby constituted a body corporate and politic, by the style of l the Robeson Agricultural Society; and by that name shall be capable to sue and be sued, plead and be imnleaded, receive, hold and transfer real and -personal property, and make such rules and regultions fur the government of the soeiety, as may promote the interest of agriculture. Be it enacted bythe Genera! .ssemnI thef t ae SYaWc of !Vorth-Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority oft iescme, That it shall be lawful, and it is hereby declared to be the duty of the conmmissioned officers of the several companmes of militia in the county of Davidson, at the first muster of their re- spective companies to be held after the first day of May next, and at every muster held thereafter, to appoint five discreet persons, residing within their respective districts, to serve as iatrollers for the term of three months; whose duty it shall be to patrol the said districts respectively, according to the laws now in force, for the regulation of patrollers in this state; and the command- ing officer, making such appointment, shall cause the persons thus appointedl Digitized from Best Copy Available .0
