dity and privileges, as were conferred upon the Commissioners named in the
before recited act, by the provisions of said act; and that they be allowed fur-
ther time, viz: until the next session of the General Assembly of North-Ca-
rolina, to make return of the plan of said Town as hv them surveyed.
II. .&nd be itfurther enated, That the Coin mmissioiers aforesaid shall not
run any of the htreets, squares or alleys, in said town, soas to interfere with
any houases of value, unless they shalf have paid the proprictor of such house
such price as may be stipulated for the same between said Commissioners and
the said proprietor.
CHAPTER LII.
An act concerning the Town of Salisbury.
Be it enacted by the General ./Assembly of the State of North-Carolina, and
it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the Commissioners of
the town of Salisbury, or a majority of them, be, and they are hereby autho-
rised and required, annually, to lay and collect, or cause to be collected by
some person appointed by them for that purpose, a tax on all the taxable pro-
perty and polls within the limits of said town, sufficient to keep the streets
of said town in good ordesr and repair. Which tax, so levied and collected,
shall be expended by the said Commissioners, or a majority of them, in keep-
ing the streets of said town in repair, and in no other manner.  .  -
II. Be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That it shall not be law-
ful for the said Commissioners to require any inhabitant of said town to la-
hor personally on the streets thereof: any former law or ordinance of the said
Commissioners to the contrary notwithstanding.
CHAPTER LIII.
An act making compensation to the Jurors of the Superior and County Courts of Moore,
Carteret and Bertie.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Xorth-Caroina, and
it is hereby enacted Iby the authority of the same, That, in future, each and e-
verr Juror who shall be appointed and suinnmnned, and shall regularly attend
theSuperior or County Courts of Moore, Carteret and Bertie, shall be al-
lowed the sum of one dollar for each and every day's attendance, and at the
rate of one dollar for every thirty mile travelling to and from said Courts.
1. .qwl be it furlher enacted, 'That each and everv Juror shall obtain, on
oath, from the Clerk of his said Courts, a certi'icate, settingz forth the number
of days he has attended, and the distance of travelling to and from said
Courts; which shall be paid by the Trustee of the counties aforesaid, in the
same manner as all other claims against said counties are paid.
111. .q2nd be it further enacted, That the County Courts aforesaid shall,and
thdv are hereby authorised and required to lay a tax in said counties, on each
and every white and black pull, not exceeding twenty-five cents; and on eve-
ry fhree hundred dollars value ofltowii property andland, the like sums, so a,
to raise a sufficient sum in said counties for the payment of said Jurors; I hich
tax the County Courts, ah aforesaid, shall cowtinue- to lay aunually; and which
fixes shall be collected and accounted for as other county taxes, in said coun-
ties, are now, or may hereafter be accounted for.
IV. And br it firther enarted, That after the first day of.Ianuarv. one thou-
sand eight hundred and twenty-four, it shall be the dlutv of the c'lnity TruQ-
