An act to amend an act, passed-in the year one thousand eight hundred and elevenen. titl&r an act directing how patrollers shall in future be appointed in Mecklenburg county. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of .N'orth- Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That from and after the passing of tr-is act, no person shall be appointed patroller in the county of Mecklenburg, according to the directions of the above recited act, unless he he the owner or overseer of a slave or slaves, or interested in a slaveor slaves ; and all other description of persons are hereby exempted from serving as patrollers aforesaid. II. And be it further enacted, That the persons who may hereafter be ap- pointed under the directions of this act, shall be vested with the same au- thority. and be subject to the same rules, regulations and penalties, that patrollers have had and been subject to, who were heretofore appointed. under the before recited act; any law to the contrary notwithstanding,-- CHAP. C. An act for the relief of Charlotte McDonald. Be it enacted by the General .ds.embly of the state of N orth. Carolina, aird it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same. That immedi- ately from and after the passage of this act, Charlotte McDonald. late of the county of Kew-Hanover, and widow of Isaac'McDonald, late a pilot on Cape Fear river, be, and she is hereby discharged from any punishment to Which she may be liable on conviction, by reason of having intermar- ried with a certain Simon Sellers, during the lifetime of the said Isaac McDnald : any law, usage, or custom to the contrary botwithstanding. 11. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid. That the So- Ilcitor for the fifth Judicial circuit, be, and he is hereby directed, to stay il proceedings which imay have heretofore been had on an indictment for Bigamy, pending in the uperior Court of law for the county of New- Hanover, against the said Charlotte McDonald. CH.AP CI. An act respecting the Courts of Pleas and Quarter Sessions of the county of Columbus. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North.Carolina, and'it zs hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That it shall not he lawful hereafter for the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions qf the county of Colu aibus to appoint, or direct to be summoned. any jury to actend at any tther terms of said Court, except at February and August terms, in each and every year ; any law to the contrary notwithstauding. CHAP. i'll. 4n act to increase the number of Jurors in the Superior Courts of the County of Lin, coln, and for other purposes Be it enacted by the General .Issembly of the State of North Carok'na, and it is hereby enaced by the authority of the same, That from and after ,the passing of this act, it shall be the duty of the Justices of the Courts of -Pleas and Quarter Ses~ions of said county, at their January ano July Ses- sions in each and every year, to draw forty-eight Jurnrs to serve in the Superior Courts of said county; and it shall be'the duty of the sheriff of .aid county to summon the same accordingly.
