& 188. same rules, regulations and restrictions as are now prescribed
by law, relative to the emancipation of slaves by the several
County Courts.
I And be it farther enalted, That so much of the existiug laws
Tepealof as authorize the Courts of Pleas and Quarter Sessions of this
former acts State to emancipate slaves, be, and the same is hereby repealed
and made void.
CHAPTER XIV.
An Act concerning the trial of Slaves in capital cases
Be it enarted by the General .ssembty of the State of North.
Tght of Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the samne,
ehalege,. That from and after the passing of this act, all slavus on trial
for capital offences, shall by themselves, masters or counsel,
have the same right to challenge Jurors, that a free man is now
entitled to by low, and that all laws coming within the mean-
ing and purview of this act, are hereby repealed.
CHAP. XV.
An ACT te change the compensation of the Attorney General, Solicitor Genor*.
at and the Solicitors of the State, in the Superior Courts for their serviecs in said
Courts.
1Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of.North
Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same,
That all acts and clauses of acts, whereby a comnpensation for
the term is given to the Attorney General, Solicitor General and
Solicitors of the State in the Superior Courts, for their services
in the Superior Courts, be anti the same are hereby repealed.
II. And beitfurther enacted, That the Attorney General shall
receive a salary of one hundred dollars as it full compensation
for his attendance on the Supreme Court; and that the Attorney
General and Solicitors shall receive the following compensation,
morapensA. viz. on every Indictment for a felony whereupon the defendant
(10*    shall be convicted in a Superior Court there shall be taxed the
sum of ten dollars: anti on every indictment for a misdemea-
nor whereupon the defendant shall be convicted in a Superior
Court there shall be taxed the sum ol five dollars as a fee to the
prosecuting oflicer in behalf of the State, to be paid by the party
convicted, and in no event by the State or by the County in which
the prosecution was instituted; and that henceforth no fee shall
be taxed for the prosecuting oflicer on any indictment whereon
the defendant shall not be convicted.
CHAP XVI.
An Act to prevent negro slaves from selling Spiritous Liqnors.
BE it enacted by the General Assembly ol'the State of North
Carolina and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same,
That in fluture if any negro slave, shall presume to sell any spi-
Ocnahty, 3 ritousliquors by retail or otherwise, such slave so oflnding shall
shcs.    be taken before a magistrate of such County, where he may have
committed sucholfence,and if found guilty, shall receive noti;
qeeding thirty nine lashes, on his or her ba re back.
