holding, possessing, and enjoying in theirgole and exelusive right, 1ll such estate either real or person-
al,' s they may hereafter acquire, either by descent, purchase or otherwise, in as. full and ample a man-
ner as ir they had never been married, to their tespective husbadids ; free and clear from the claims of
their said husbands or their creditors, and they are severally made capable to prosecute and defend
suitseitherin law or equity in their own names in the same maniter as if they had never been married.
II. And be ityiirther enacted, That they the said Susanna Riddle, Sarah Vannoy, Patsey Lewis,.
Folly Johnston, Polly Colyear, MIaiy Griswold, Anna Thomis, Margaret Ronne, Nancy Hannah,
Sarah Hobbs, Elizabeth P. Wortham, Peggy Field, Sally Spears, Eliza Dowday, Lucy Clark, Rebec.
ca Pugh, Silvia Ward, Mary G. Ferguson, Sarah Jordan, Allay Hackett, Martha Hunt, Holland
Whitsenhunt, Elizabeth Powell, Love Brady, Ltcy Powers, Sarah Leigh, Tempey Tapley, wife of
Robert Tapley of Montgomery County, and Elizabeth Toris, wife of Benjamin Toris, and .I'ary Gre..
gory, wife of Edmund Gregory, are hereby respectively forever barred from all right of dower or
claim of any kind on the real or personal estate of which their hesbands respectively may die, scized
or possesse~d ia' the sane manner as though they never had been married.
CHAP. LXIX
An acttdirecting the designation othawls andhow Ihcy shall le compehed to work under Overseers of Roads hereafter in th
Cuties at Lincoln, Columbus, Burke, and Rockinghan.
Be it enacted byf the General Assembly of the State of North-Caratina and it is hereby -enacted by th,
auihority of the same, That from and after the passing of, this act it shall be the duty of the county
courts of pleas and quarter sessions of the counties of Lincoln, Golumibus, Burke and Rockingham to
designate to each of the ,verseers of roads in said counties, the hands which shall be called upon by
thei to woik on ibadi in their respective districts ; and designation shall be made in such manner aw
toeqiiflize th- labour as much as possile ; and no person hereafter shall be compelled to work out
of tie' bounds oo dekigvated for himko labotu on the public rolds.
II. And be it Arther enacted, That -it shall be the diuty of the Clerks of the courts of pleas and quar-
ter sessions in each of the said countifs- to furnish each overseer with a list of the hands so designated
by couFt, which list shall accompany the court order by which the overseer is so appointed.
IlL And-be it /iOther enacted, That when an overseer makes a return to court of his having com-
plied with th,: order, and dldiver up his charge as such he shall at the same time deliver up the list of
hands who have workfd, or are at that time liable to work on that district of ivad, that the same may
be put.into the possession of his successor.
IV. -And be it further enacted, That the overseer shall in all cass or trials at law  be considered
as-a competent witness to prove notie s to persons who are directed by law to work on roads.
-CHA . LXX.
An act better to provide for the Poor of Wake County.
WHEREAS the inhabitants of said countyfre greatly oppressed with henvy taxes for the support of
their poor, for remedy whereof-
. Re it enacted by the General Assembly of the State ofNorth-Carolina, itmd it is heieby endcted by the
authority of the same, That a majority of th6-acting Justices Of the said county,' shail have full power
and aulthority to cause to be erected suitable buildings for the' reception of the.satid poor, if they shall
deem the same advisable, and to iiscease the poor tax of the said county,' so much as may be necessa-
ry for that end, having respect to the same ratio and biLing confined to the same objects 'of taxation as
are by law now establishcd for that pur pose.
.II, -And be it liarther enacto1, Ihat the said Justices are authorisqd to make and establish from time
to time, such 'regulations for the government of the said poor, and all superiutendants they may ent-
ploy, as they in their discretion shall deem necessary and expedient.
CHAP., LXXI.
An act to provide for the payment of Jurot4 in the county of Bladen.
qE it enacted by the Gencral Assembly of tle State of North-Carolina, and it' is hereby enacted by Mthe
authority of the same, That all Jurors, who shall serve at any of the County or Supprior Courts, held
for and in the county of Bladen, shall be entitled to the stum of seventy-five cents per day for such ser-
vice, and all ferriages paid for passing to ind fron'such court, and that all jurors shall be allowed the
same for, every thirty miles travelling to and froth any of the said courts,, as they are allowed for one
days service.
II. And be it further enacted, That when-such jurors shall have perfqrmed such services it any of the
aid courts, they shall then on applicationl to the Clerk of said court obtain a certificate for the same,
vihb is hereby' tuthorised to issue certificates for such services.
CHAP. LXXII.
- .An act to establish permanently thedividing line between the counties oflBurke and Ashe.
.e it enacted by the General Asset'hly of the State of North-Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by tht
authority of the same, That the following boundaries, to wit,: beginning at the Yadkin spring, thence
along the extreme height of the Blue-Ridge, to the head sping of Flat-top fork of Elk Creek, thence
down the incanders' of-said creek to the Tennessee State line, shall he and the same is hereby declared
the permancnt dividing  ne between the counties of Burke and Ashe.
