Six. 6. Be it further enacted, That this act

CHAPTER LIV.
AN ACT to prevent thp. hunting of slork with guns or
dogs in this State in certain cases.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature
of the State of Mlfississippi, That it shall not
be lawful for any white person, or any freed-
man, free negro or mulatto in this State to
hunt hogs or other stock, either with guns or
dogs, upon any lands other than their own,
exce)t as is hereinafter provided.
SEC. 2. Be it further cuacted, That in all
cases where parties claimig bogs or other
stock, and desiging to lhuit the same upon
lands adjacent to their own, with dogs or giuns,
it shall be the duty of such person or persons
to give three days' notice, in writing, to the
owner or owners of said lands, or to the
agents, if the owners are unon-residents, and
if there should be no agents, then to the three
nearest land-owners, stating their intentions
to so hunt said stock 11pon his or her ulnds,
particularly stating the time he or they will,
so hunt.
SEC. 3. Be it further enacted, That any
white person violating the provisions of this
act shall be deemed giuilty of a misdemeanor,
and upon conviction shall be fined not less
than one hundred dollars nor more than five
hundred dollars, or imprisoned in the county
jail, not less than one mouth nor more than
three months, or both by such fine and im-
prisonment in the discretion of the court.
