JOINT RESOLUTION requesting the Governor to do all things
neces-ary to protect the people from illegal impressmente.
Resolved bfthel.legikhittite of the State of Mis-
sibsippi, That the GoVernor be requested to do all
things necessary to.ptotedt the people of the State
from the illegal pressing of slaves and other
property 'by officers of the Confederate army, or
byparties assuming to be such officers y especially
to pievent the wholtsals pressing of slaves -how
pr9greshinlg i the border cointies of this State,
which if continued, in ou r opilion, will have the
effedt to cause the slaves of those counties to go
aluost enmasse.to the lines of the enemy.

pressed with the lofty and patriotic spirit, the
ardent devotion anId the he remitting labors and
sacrifices of the mothers.wives, sisters and daughters
of the State, in providing for the wants and com-
forts of' our gllant soldiersi, and who by their
prayers and approving smiles have nerred our
veteran soldiers to: deeds of heroism in the field in
this bloody and ufiequal contest with ou* beartleis
and unrelenting foe, do hereby tender to them their
heartfelt thanks 'and the thaniks of the whole .peo-
pie of the State of Mississippi.
