Attorney of the district in which the lands are
situated, when requested theretorby -the Auditor, to
institute the necessary steps, in the name of the
Auditor, to perfect such title-the District Attor-
ney to receive such fees for his services, out of the
State Treasury, as the Judge of the'couvt in which
the suits are filed may allow him-said allowance
to be paid as the salary of the District Attorney
or other fees are now paid by law.
SEC. 7. Bc it further enacted, That all sales of

all intents aid purposes-said lands sulject to re-
demption as provided by law-and that no such
sale shall be impeached or questioned in any man-
nor, or for any cause, saving fraud or mistake in
the assessment, or sale of the same, or upon the
proof that the tax for which the same were sold
bad been paid prior to such sale, and no suit to set
aside any title acquired under such sale, hereafter
to be made, shall be brought, unless within five
years from the date of the sale.
Suc. 8. Be it further enacted, That this act
shall take effect and be in force from and after its
passage.

CHAPTER CLV.
AN ACT for the punishment of Slaves convicted of the
crime of manslaughter.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of
the State of Mississippi, That if any slave shall
kill any other slave, free negro or mulatto, under
such circumstances as would make the killing man-
slaughter if done by a 'while person, upon a white
person, such slave so offending, upon conviction
thereof, shall receive any number of lashes, not
exceeding fifty, on each day, for three successive
days, or shall be branded in the left hand with the
letter M, or may be both whipped and branded as
the court may determine.
