CHAPTER LXV.
AN ACT to increase the compensation of Tax Assessors.
S Ic. 1 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the
State of Mississipp,. That pvery assessor of taxes,
shall be entitled to receive from the state treasury,
as fIll compensation for all his services; as asses-
sor, seven per centum on the aniount of his assess-
ment, payable when i duly certified copy of his
assessment roll shall have been deposited in the
office of the Auditor; Provided, such compensation
shall not be less than two hundred dollars, nor
more than seven hundred dollars, and this act shall
apply to the assessment made the present year.
SEC. 2. Be it further enacted, That this act
shall take effect and be in force from and after its
passage.

AN ACT for the relief of Charles A. Snlth and for othorpurposes.
WiEREAS, by the exertions of Charles A. Smith,
of Clarke county, one Tiglman, Watson was ap-
prehended in the state of Alabama, and by said'
Smith brought bacl to the county of Clarke, and
subsequently tried and convicted of the crime of
negro stefling, and whereas, it has been recour-
mendedI by thedistrict attorney and judge .of the
eighth diktridt, itnd by prominent citizens of Clarke
county, that Mr. Smith's .services should be ac-
knowledged by this legislature as public sert iccs,
and Mr. S. reimbursed for his time,: trout] and
expense in securing the arrest. of said: Watson,
therefore,
SEC. 1. Be it enacted by the Lrgisluxe 6f the
State of Mississippi, That the services of Charles
A. Smith, Esq., of Clarke county, in pursuing,
apprehending and bringing back for trial Tighman
Watson in February last, be, and the same are
hereby acknowledged as public services.
