Be it further enacted, That this adt take effect and be in force from and after its passage. Approved, November 19th, 1857. (HAPTER XCVI. AN ACT for the beneilt of Wi. Bell. WHEREAs Willian Bell, of the county of Oktib- beha, State of Mississippi, prosecuted one J. J. Rainwater, in the year 1854, before a Justice of the Peace of said county, for a violation of the act approved March 6th, 1850, entitled an act to. suppress trade and barter wiih slaves, and whereas said Rainwater was convicted before said Justice and recognized for his appearance at the next succeeding term of the Circuit Court of Oktibbeha county, in the sun of five hundred dollars, and whereas at said term of said Cir- cuit Court said Rainwater was indicted by the Grand Jury of said county for a violation of the statute aforesaid-and whereas the proof was so palpable that the said Rainwater fled the State beforo his trial como on and forfeited his recog- nizance-and whereas the sun of five hundred dollars has been collected by the Sheriff of said county out of the offects of said Rainwater and his securities, and whereas said Rainwater was a dangerous ninn to a slave conununity and the county has been ridden of himo by the prosecu- tion aforesaid, and the said 13oll has expended a large amount in proseenting said Rainwater and would, on final trial, have, been entitled to half the line imposed by the court, therefore: 8Kc. 1 Be it enacted by IMe Iegislature of UMe ati of .atissistippi, ThattleSheriff of Oktibbeha4county 110and lie ti required to pay to said William 1all the sum of two hundred tiid fIlly dollars, or one- half the amnount of the recognizance by him col
