CHAPTER XVIII.
AN ACT to nesept a grant of land to the State of Misssippi and to carry
into execution tbo trust .conferred upon the State of Mississippi, by an
act of Congress, entitled An nt granting public lands In alternate sections
to the State of Mississippi, and in the6 construction of Railroads in said
State, and for other purposes, Approved, August 11th, A. D., 1856.
SEC. 1. Be it enacted 6y the Legislature of the
State of .lissiesippi, That the lands, rights, powers,
and privileges granted to and conferred upon the
State of Mississippi, by the above mentioned act,
be, and the same are hereby accepted, upon the
terms, conditions, and restrictions in said act of
Congress contained.
SEC. 2. Be itffurther enacted, That so much of
the lands, interests, rights, powers, and privileges
as are, or may be granted, and conferred in pursu-
ance of the act of Congress aforesaid, to aid in the
construction of a Railroad from Jackson in this
State, to the line between the State of Mississippi,
and the State of Alabama, are hereby disposed of,
granted to, and conferred upon the Southern Rail-
road Company, a body corporate, created and exis-
ting under the laws of this State.
SEC. 3. Be it further enacted, That this act shall
take effect and be in force, from and after its pas-
sage.
Approved, February 2d, 1857.
CHAPTER XIX.
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representa-
tives of the State of .ississippi, That a free man of
color, named Alexander Reed, in consideration of
services rendered by him in the war with Mexico,.
be permitted to remain in this State, on entering
into bond in the sum of one thousand dollars, with
surety to be approved by the Board of Police of
Hinds county, conditioned for his good behavior,.
but this resolution shall be subject to be abrogated
by the Legislature. ,
