CHAPTER 346.
A&N ACT to amend the laws in relation to the Board of Police,
and the working of roads in-the counties, of Wilknson, Franklin,
Hinds, Neshoba and Warren.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislatre of the
State of IfMississippi, That the Board of Police of
the counties of Wilkinson, Franklin, Hinds, Neshoba
and Warren, are hereby empowered, if said Board
in their direction shall deem it expedient and neces-
-sary, to employ and appoint some suitable person as
superintendent of the public roads and bridges, in
each of said counties respectively.
Szc. 2. Be it further enacted, That before making
suich appointment of superintendent by said Board,
it shall be the duty of the President thereof, to ad-
vertise in some newspaper in the proper county, if
there be one in such county, if not, then by post-
ing up notices in three public places therein, for at
ieast two weeks, that said Board, at a meeting there-
of to be specified in said notice, will proceed to make
such appointment of superintendent; and in the ap-
pointment of said superintendent, said Board of
Police shall have special regard.as well to the fitness
and competency of the applicant for such superin-
tendency as to the amount of salary to be allowed
him, which salary shall be fixed by agreement at the
time of his appointment, and shall in no case exceed
the rate of one thousand dollars per annum, to be
paid out of the county treasury.
SEC. 3. Be it further enacted, That the superinten-
dent so appointed, before entering upon the duties of
his office, shall take atid subscribe an oath before the
clerk of suid Board of Poiice, or some other officer
competent to administer the same, that he will faith-
fully, and to the best of his skill and judgment,
without favor or partiality, perform all the duties re-
quired of hin by law, or the orders of said Board of
Police, which oath so taken and subscribed, shall be

SEC. 4. Be it further enacted, That immediately
after the appointment and qualification of such se-
perintendent as aforesaid, it shall be his duty to ob.
