CHAPTER 99.
AN ACT entitled an act to provide Patrols in the county of
Noxubee.
SECTION 1. Be it enacled by the Legislature of
the State of Mississippi, That from and after the pas-
sage of this act, it shall be the duty of the Board of
Police in said county to assess an annual tax, not
exceeding ten cents, on each negro subject to taxa-
tion, for the purpose of paying the patrol in said
county.
SEc 2. Be it fur/her enacted, That it shall be the
duty of the tax collector of said county to collect
said tax when the other taxes are collected, and shall
pay the same over to the County Treasurer, as
other county taxes, who shall hold the same subject
to the drafts of the President of the Board of Police,
for the purpose of paying the patrol in said county.
SEc. 3. Be it further enac-ed, That it shall be
the duty of said Board of Police, at lcast four times
in each year, to appoint a sufficient number of pa-
trols in each police district, under suitable captains,
who shall diligently patrol their respective neigh-
borhoods, at least one night in each week, subject to
the laws now in' force regulating patrol duty.
Src. 4. Be it further enact: d, Thatit shall be thd
duty of the respective captains, thus appointed, to
make quarterly returns of the number of nights
-which he and the company under him have served,
which return shall be made in writing, and sworn to
before the President of the Board of Police.
SEc. 5. Be it further enactrd, That it shall be
the duty of the said Board-of Police, at their quar-
terly meeting, to draw, by their President, upon the
County Treasurer in favor of each captain and pri-
vate, to the amount of fifty cents for each night by
him spent in patroling, and it shall be the duty of the
said Treasurer to pay the same out of the patrol
fund.
SEc. 6. Be it further enacted, That it shall be
the duty of the President of the Board of Police to
write a notice to each captain of patrol on the day
of his appointment, and place the same in the hands
of the sheriff, who shall execute and re'-rn the
same to the clerk of said Probate court, which no-
