provided for its construction or use, every such
person or persons so offending, shall, on convic-
tion of any of the aforesaid offences by satisfac-
tory proof, in any Court having competent juris-
diction, be fined for the benefit of said Corpora-
tion, in four fold the amount of injury proved to
be sustained, and collected as other judgments ob-
tained before said Courts.
SEc. 11. Be it further enacted, That the Presi-
dent and Directors may declare and pay annual
Dividends dividends to the stockholders from the profits aris-
ing from the tolls received on said Bridge, but if
there shall be a failure of the payment of any sum
subscribed to the capital stock of said Company,
by any person or persons, the party failing shall
lose the benefit of any dividend which may have
accrued prior to the time of making such payment,
and during the delay of the same; Provided, how-
ever, That the President and Directors shall at
all times reserve from the profits of said Bridge
such sums of money as they may deem necessary
and proper for the repair and contingent expenses
of keeping said Bridges and embankments in good
condition for travel.
SEC. 12. And be it further enacted, That this act
shall take effect from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 253.
AN ACT to anend an act entitled an act to amend the levee
laws in Washington county, approved Feb. 1st, 1850.
SECTION. 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of
the State of .Mississippi, Those persons who advanc-

port of the Levee Commissioners, acting at the
time in the several districts that the money was
so advanced, be entitled to county scrip, issued by
order of the Board of Police, for the sum so ad-
vanced respectively, and said scrip shall bear in-
terest at the rate of six per cent. per annum, from
the time the money was advanced until paid.
