SEc. 2. And be it further enacted, That this act shall take effect and be in force from and after its. passage. Approved March 16, 1852. CHAPTER 242. AN ACT to prohibit the burning of woods, grassor prairie,. in the county of Holes. SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That whosoever shall at any Bur of time hereafter, knowingly and wilfully set on fire woudg Of any woods, grass or prarie, within the limits of the county of Holmes, so as thereby to occasion any loss, damage, or injury to any other person or per- sons, every such person so offending, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and on being thereof legally convicted in the Circuit Court for said county, shall, on such conviction, be fined in a sum of not less than fifty dollars, nor more than five hundred dollars, the said sums to be paid into the county treasury, to the credit of the common school fund of the county of Holmes; and said person or persons so offending shall, on conviction as aforesaid, be imprisoned in the county jail of said county for a period of not less than one, month nor more than three months. SEC. 2.
