Be it further enacted, That no act of Circuit Courts of the State of Mississippi shall be void in consequence of the want of the proper qualification of the Clerks or Sheriffs in said State, but that the same shall be as valid as if said Clerks and Sheriffs had been properly qualified. SEc. 3. And be it further enacted, That this act take effect and be in force from and after its pas- sage. Approved March 10, 1852. CHAPTER 47. AN ACT to provide for the punishment of persons who may persuade or incite a slave or slaves to run away from his or er owner or overseer, and for other purposes. SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That if any free person shall hereafter utter words in the hearing of any Punished slave or slaves, with the intention of inciting or f, to rua inducing any slave or slaves to run away or escape away. from the service or employment of his, her, or their owner, or overseer, or employer, the person so offending, shall be guilty of a high misdemeanor, and may be indicted therefor, and being thereof convicted, shall be fined in any sum not exceeding three hundred dollars. SEc. 2. And be it further enacted, That if any free person shall advise, assist, induce, or procure any slave or slaves to run away or escape from the service or employment of his or her owner, over- Punished seer or employer, the person so offending, shall be for advi- guilty of a high misdemeanor, and may be indict- sing. ed therefor, and on being convicted thereof, shall be fined not less than one hundred, nor more than three hundred dollars for each slave so caused by him or her to run away, or escape from the service or employment of his or her owner, overseer, or employer, and shall be imprisoned for a term not exceeding three months, and remain in custody until such fine and cost be paid, or he or she be otherwise discharged by due course of law. SEc. 3. And be it further enacted, That if any free person shall counsel or advise any slave or slaves to run away from his or her master, mistress, 137 LAWS OF MISSISSIPPI.
