estate, and to sell, lease, and dispose of the same.
SEc. 5. Be it further enacted, That the said corpo-
ration shall have and possess the right and power
of conferring the usual academical degrees.

CHAPTER 6.
AN ACT to punish the crime of rape by a slave, free negro
or Mulatto.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the
State of Mlississippi, That if any slave, free negro,
or mulatto, shall commit a rape on any white fe-
male, every such slave, free negro, or mulatto, shall
on conviction suffer death.
SEc. 2. And be it further cuacted, That this act
shall take effect and be in force from and after its
passage.
Approved, October 14, 1852.
CHAPTER 7.
AN ACT to legalize a county levy by the Board of Police of
Neshoba county, and for other purposes.
SErCTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the
State of JiIssissippi, That the county levies made
by the Board of Police of the county of Neshoba, on
the second Monday of September, A. ID. 1852, shall
be as valid, and the Sheriff of said county shall be
as fully authorized and empowered to collect the
same, as if said levies had been made on the first
Monday of August of the same year.
SEc. 2. Be it further enacted, That upon all moneys
which may come to the hands of the county Treas-
urer of said county by virtue of an act entitled
an act to promote common schools in the several
counties in this State, approved March 9, 1850, or
of any law supplemental to, or amendatory of said
law, the said county Treasurer shall receive out of Treasur
said moneys the sum of one per cent. on said moneys er's fees.
