of the State of Mississippi, on some day in the month
of April next, to be selected by them, to cause to be
burned, the bonds issued by the State on account
of the Mississippi Union Bank, and now remaining
unsold in the treasury, amounting to ten millions of
dollars; to make a record and certificate of such
burning, to be by them duly signed ,nd certified
and deposited in the treasury office.
SEC. 4. Be it further enacted, That the State
Treasurer be, and he is hereby authorised, from
time to time, for the next three years, to purchase
and procure, in his discretion, all needful boxes and
receptacles for coin, for the use of his office,.and to
pay for the same on the pay warrant of the Auditor
of Public Accounts; which warrant or warrants,
said Auditor is hereby authorised and required to
issue on due proof of such purchase and procure-
ment: Provided, That the expenditures under and
by virtue of this section, shall not exceed fifty dol-
lars per annum.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this act
shall take effect and be in force from and after its
passage.

CHAPTER 31.
AN ACT to suppress trade and barter with slaves, and for other
purposes.
Fine and SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of
imprison- the State of Mississippi, That any person or per-
ment.   sons, who shall buy, sell, or receive of, to, or from
any slave or slaves, anay corn, fodder, hay, meal,
spiritous liquors, or other produce, or commodity
whatsoever, without the consent, in writing, of the
master, owner, overseer or employer of such slave
or slaves, shall be held guilty of a high misdemeanor,
and shall on conviction thereof, be fined in a sum of
not less than fifty dollars, nor more than five hun-
dred dollars, and shall be imprisoned in the county
jail not less than, one month, nor more than twelve
months, and shall be liable to all costs of prose-
cution.
S.   2. Be it further enacted, That in the in-
dictment for the offence specified in the first sectiba.
