AN ACT to amend an act to secure to the owners of Slaves execu- * ted by sentence of law, compensation for the same, approved, 16th Februaty, 1846. SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That hereafter, persons being non-residents of this State, having any slave or slaves executed by sentence of the law in this State, shall not be entitled to receive payment for the value of such slave or slaves, or any portion thereof, out of the State treasury. SEC. 2. Be it further enacted, That this act be in force and take effect from and after its passage. Approved February 29, 1848. CHAPTER 53. AN ACT to amend the practice in the Superior and District Courts of Chancery in this State. SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That in all cases in which the chancellor or vice-chancellor shall refuse to set aside a pro confesso and permit an answer to be filed, the party or parties aggrieved thereby may require the chancellor to endorse on the affidavits 161
