Approved 4th March, 1846. CHAPTER 44. AN ACT to prescribe the duties of jailors in relation to runaway slaves, and to fix the penalty for violating the sane. SECTION 1. Be it enactediy the Legislature of the Jailor to State of Mississippi, That it shall be the duty ofkles the jailors ofthe several counties of this State when- ever any runaway slave is committed to the jail in their keeping, to keep said slave constantly confined and closely shut up, until proven away by the own- er, or dealt with according to law. SEC. 2.
