competent jurisdiction, shall be fined at the discretion of the'

SEc. 22 It shall not be lawful for any jalier, or keeper of
any jail, or any uheriff, deputy sheriff, orother person, to keep
an inn, tavern, or shop. in any jail or building occupied as a
jail of any county within this state; and every sheriff, deputy
sheriff, jailer, or other permon so otTending, shall be deemed
guilty ofa misdemeanor, and punished by tine and imprison-
ment, at the discretion of the court before whom such convic-
tion is had.
SEC. 23. No person, who may be deputed by any sheriff
to do a particular act only, shall be required to take the oath
directed by this act to be taken by deputy sheriffs.

AN ACT, concerning Coroners.
SEc. 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Represeii-
ihtives of the State of Jississippi, in General .Assenably convened.
That there shall be chosen, at the time, and in the manner
prescribed in the constitution, and laws of this state, one Cor-
oner for each county within the same, who shall be commis-
sioned by the governor, andt shall continue in office for the
term of two years, unless sooner removed; and before he en-
ter on the duties of his office, he shall take the oath prescrib-
ed in the constitution, before any Justice of the County Court
or Justice of the Peace, of the county for which he is chosen,
and enter into band, with two or more good and sufficient se-
curities, to be approved by the preiding Justice of the Coun-
ty Court of such county, in the penalty of one half the sum re-
quired by law of the sheriff of that county, for which such
Coroner is ch.sen, payable to the governor of the stnte for the
time being, and his successors in office, witlh the like condi-
tion, nutatis mutandis, as is prescribed in the bond dirt-cled
by law to be given by sheriffs. The presiding Justice ioP
the County Court shall endorse on said bond, his approbation
of the sureties therein named, and a certificate that he has ad-
ministered to the Coroner the oath of office, and shall cause
