AN ACT
'o establish a County Court.witlIn eact
Count? in this State, for Orphan busi-
County Police, for the Trial of
Slaves and for other prposes.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate
and Flouse of Representatives of the State
-of 1Jssissippt in General .Assembly conven-
ed, That there shall be established it
each county in this state, a court, to be
styled the county court, to consist of
three justices to be electedby the joint
-vote of both houses of the general as.
sembly, and commissioned by the go.
vernor, justices of the peace and of the
quorum during good behaviour, and
one of which shall also be commission-
ed chief justice thereof which court
-shall hold four stated terms a year, ana
the said court and chiefjustice there-
of; shall have, possess. and exercise all
the powers and jurisdiction of a court
of probate, for the granting of letters
testameritary, and of administration, foi-
orphaus' business, for county polic,
and for the trial of slaves, and general-
ly, both in and out of term, all the pow-
ers and jurisdiction belonging and ap-
pertaining by the laws of' the Mississip-
pi territory at the time of the adoption
of the constitution of this state, to the
county court and chief justice thereof
respectively; and all the laws then in
force in said territory, not contrary to
the laws and constitution of this state,
which applied or related to the count
