This act shall take effect from its passage.

AN ACT for the relief of William Peterson, a free man of color.
Be it enacted by the General dssembly of the State of Missouri at
follows:
§ 1. That William Peterson, a free man of color, is hereby authorized
to reside, and remain in the State of Missouri, any law to the contrary not-
withstanding : Provided, That said free negro shall obtain license, give
bond within ninety days from the passage of this act, and be subject to all
laws in relation to free negroes and mulattoes.
§ 2. The said William Peterson, a free man of color, is hereby released
from any penalty incurred by reason of his having remained in this State
without a license.
This act to take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

AN ACT for-the relief of John A. Pigg, of Bates county.
WHEREAs, In the month of January, 1859, during the difficulties on the
border adjacent to Kansas line, when the abolitionists were burning the
houses and destroying and stealing the property of the citizens of Bates
county, the Sheriff, in obedience to an order of the County Court of
said county, summoned men to guard and protect the said citizens and
their property; and the said John A. Pigg, having at the request of
the said Sheriff furnished boarding for the said guard, numbering fifty
men, for the space of four weeks, and having also provided feed for
twenty horses for the same length of time ; said horses belonging to
the mounted portion of said guard; and, whereas, the said John A.
Pigg has never received any compensation for the same ; therefore,
Be it enacted by the General dssenbly of the State of Missouri, as
follows :
§ 1. The Auditor of Public Accounts is hereby authorized and required
o draw his warrant on the State Treasurer, in favor of John A. Pigg,
