AN ACT to incorporate the Town of Tipton, in Moniteau County, Missouri.

§ 1. The inhabitants of the town of Tipton
incorporated.
2. Limits of the corporation.
3. Corporate powers vested in a Board of
Councilmen; how chosen; their pow-
ers; as to their organization and pro-
ceedings.
4. Term of office of Councilmen; quali-
fications.
5. Council to appoint Clerk; Clerk's du-
ties.
6. Councilmen to take oath; when to as-
semble.
7. Council shall fix their time and place
of meeting; may have called meet-
ings; how called; style of ordinan-
ces.
8. Power of Council as to taxation.
9. Power of Council as to preserving or-
der, etc.
10. Power of Council as to fines and im-
prisonment.
11. Council may appoint Street Overseer;
who shall work streets ; powers and
duties of Council as to improving
streets and sidewalks.
12. As to the collection of taxes; author-
ized to enforce the same.

§ 13. Council to appoint certain'officers, and
prescribe their duties, and fix fees;
may require officers to give bond.
14. Council to supply town with water;
borrow money; remit fines.
15. Who first Board of Councilmen; when
regular election of Councilmen to be
held ; as to mode of conducting elec-
tions; how vacancies in Councilmen
filled.
16. Real estate sold for taxes, may be re-
deemed ; how.
17. Tipton to be and remain a part of Wil-
low Fork township.
18. As to the dismissal of suits brought be-
fore Justices of the Peace in said
township or town.
19. Additional Justice of the Peace to be
commissioned in said township.
20. Jurisdiction of said Justice.
21. Constable to be elected in the town of
Tipton; term of his office; his pow-
ers, and duties, and jurisdiction.
22. Citizens of said town exempted from
working roads.
23. The General Assembly may alter, re-
peal, or amend this acts
24. Secretary of State to forward a copy
of this act to Clerk of County Court.

Be it enacted by the General .Assembly of the State of Missouri, as
follows:
§ 1. The inhabitants of the town of Tipton included in the limits here-
inafter described, in the county of Moniteau, in the State of Missouri, are
hereby declared and constituted a body corporate and politic, by the name
and style of the town of Tipton ; and by that name the inhabitants thereof
and their successors shall be known in law, and have perpetual succession;
and may sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, defend and be defended,
in all courts of law and equity, in all matters ; may purchase, receive, and
hold property, real and personal, within the limits of said town as shall be
necessary for said town in the exercise of her corporate powers; and may
lease, sell, and dispose of the same for the benefit of said town ; may have
a common seal and alter the same.
§ 2. The corporate limits of the town of Tipton shall include the south
half of section fifteen, township forty-five, range seventeen, and that por-
tion of land lying east of the Osage Valley and Southern Kansas Railroad,
known as Fowler's Addition ; also Stephen Adair's lot lying between said
road and the Pacific Railroad.
§ 3. The corporate powers of said town shall be vested in a Board of
Councilmen, to consist of seven members, to be chosen by the qualified vo-
ters of said town, a majority of whom shall constitute a quorum to transact
business, but a smaller number may adjourn from day to day, and shall have
power to compel the attendance of absent members; they shall judge of the
qualifications and returns of their own members ; determine contested elec-
tions; make rules and by-laws for their government; may punish any mem-
ber or other person for disorderly behavior in their presence, while sitting as a
Board; and may expel any member after he has had a due hearing in de-
fense, but not twice for the same offense.
