passage, and it shall be the duty of the County Court of the county of Jack-
son to cause notice to be given of the time and place for holding the first
election (on the first Monday in April, eighteen hundred and sixty,) for
Mayor and Councilmen of said town, and to appoint Judges of such elec-
tion.
§ 24. All citizens residing within the corporation shall be exempt from-
working on any other road or roads beyond the limits of said town incorpo--
ration, or from the payment of any tax or fine in relation to the same.
This act to take effect from and after its passage.

AN ACT to incorporate Georgetown, in Pettis County.

1. The inhabitants of a certain district of
country incorporated; boundaries of
corporation; general corporate pow-
ers.
2. Corporate powers who vested in; Coun-
cilmen to be chosen annually, when;
qualifications for Councilmen; how
vacancies filled.
3. Qualification of voters.
4. Officers to take oath of office; Council-
men to bejudges of qualification, etc.,
of members; shall regulate their own
proceedings.
5. Council to elect their officers; duties of
the presiding officer of Council.
6. Aldermen authorized to punish by fine
and imprisonment.
7. Person arrested after sunset to be im-
prisoned until next day.
S. The Council shall have power-
First. To provide for the prevention of
contagious diseases;
Second. To prevent nuisances;
Third. To tax theatricals, etc.
Fourth. To license or suppress tippling or
dram-shops;
Fifth. To prohibit gaming;
Sixth. To regulate markets;
eventh. To provide for prevention of
fires;
Eighth. To keep streets open;
Ninth. To prevent the meetings of slaves;
Tenth. To establish watches;
Eleventh. To prevent furious riding;
Twelfth. To prohibit shouting;
Thirteenth. To prevent vulgarity and ob-
scenity;
Fourtecnth. To prevent obstruction of
streets;

Fifteenth. To regulate the police;
Sixteenth. To pass all ordinances neces--
sary for the good government of the
town.
9. Council to elect Marshal; his term of
office; his duties; authorized to ap-
point deputies ; may summon by-
standers in case of riot; penalty for
not obeying such summons.
10. Citizens of corporation exempted from
working on roads.
11. For what purposes taxes, fines, etc.,
used ; how appropriated.
12. Council to elect Town Clerk; his term
of office; Clerk to publish statement
of receipts and expenditures an-
nually.
13. Council to fix the time and place of
their meeting.
14. Council authorized to collect poll, and
other taxes.
15. Council to provide the manner of col-
lecting taxes.
16. Council to appoint Treasurer and other
officers.
17. Who to preside in Council when Alder-
man is absent.
18. Council to appoint Judges of election,
and fix their duties, and provide the
mode of conducting elections, and of
determining contested elections, etc.
19. Real estate sold by virtue of any ordi-
nance may be redeemed, in what
time, and on what terms.
20. Council to provide record books.
21. Style of ordinances ; to be signed by
the Alderman, and published.
22. Who first Board of Councilmen.
23. This act a public act.

Be it enacted by the General Issembly of the State of Missouri, as
follows :
§ 1. That all that district of country heretofore known as Georgetown,
in the county of Pettis, and State of Missouri, within the following bounds,
to-wit: Commencing, at the south-west corner of Reece Hughes' addition ta.
