Be it enacted by thec General .lssemb/y of Ilse Stle of Wssouri, as
follows:
§                                 1. That all that district of country known heretofore by the name of
Napoleon, and embracing all that property known as Poston's Landing, on
the Missouri river, in Lafayette county, Missouri, beginning with the western
boundary line of John A. Poston's land, on the Missouri river, and extend-
ing north from the north-western corner of said Poston's land to the center
of the Missouri river, at low water ; thence running eastwardly in the center
of the Missouri river, for the distance of two miles ; thence south for the
distance of one (1) mile ; thence west for the distance of one (1) Mile
thence north to the place of beginning, with the plat as laid down by Wil-
liam, L. Pynchon, with all additions thereto that may be hereafter made,
shall be known and called by the name of  Napoleon Cit ; and all
the inhabitants in the foregoing described limits shall be, and are hereby
incorporated, erected, and established, and shall be a body politic and
corporate, by the name and stle of the inhabitants of Napoleon City; and
by that name and style shall C known in law; have continual succession ;
may sue and be sued ;       plead and be impleaded; defend and be defended in
all courts of law and equity, and in all matters; may purchase, hold, and
receive property, real and personal, within the limits of said town, or that
hereafter may to attached to the said town; and may lease, sell and dispose
of the same ; and may have a common seal, and may alter the same at
pleasure.
i 2. The corporate powers and duties of said town shall be vested in a
B3oard of Councilmen, to consist of seven members, who shall be chosen
annually by the qualified and legal voters of said town, on the first Monday
in November, and shall hold their offices for one year, and until their suc-
cessors are duly elected and qualifid; no person shall be a councilman unless
ho shall have attained the ago of twenty-one years, be a citizen of the United
States, and have resided within the limits of said town at least six months
next preceding the election; should a vacancy occur in the board, it shall
be filled by an election to be held at such time as the Board of Councilmen
shall order and appoint ; all elections shall be by ballot, at such places as
the Board of Councilmen shall prscribe.
§ h . All white ainle persons, citizens of the United States, who shall
have resided within the town limits six months preceding an election,
shall be qualified to vote at said election.
