Leonard, on the 2nd day of October, 1848; and whereas, Mary Paine, executrix of the said Ballinger Paine, has made application to the register and receiver of the state land office, at Sa- vannah, for redress, and has been unable to obtain re-payment and relief; therefore, j1 Auditor of public accounts authorized 1 2. John W. Kelly authorized to receive to draw warrant in favor of Mary warrant, &o. Paine. I ge it enacted by the General Assembly of the &ate of .Missouri, as follows: § 1. The auditor of public accounts is hereby authorized and required to draw his warrant upon the treasury of this state, in favor of Mary Paine, executrix of Ballinger Paine, deceased, late of Holt county, for, the sum of one hundred dollars, with six per cent. interest from the 8th day of January, 1850; to be paid out of the proceeds of the sales of the five hundred thousand acres of land granted to this state by an act of congress, approved Septenber 4th, 1841. § 2. That John W. Kelly, of Holt county, is hereby authorized and ,empowered to receive the warrant for said money, and to receive the money paid thereon, and his receipt shall be binding and valid, to the same effect, as if signed by the said Mary Paine. This act to be in force and take effect fhom and after its passage. Approved March 2, 1855. AN ACT for the relief of Gabriel Ilellams, a free man of color. WHEREAS, it appearing to the general assembly of the state of Missouri, that Gabriel Hollams, commonly called Gabe, of the city of St. Louis, in this state, was born a slave in the state of Kentucky, that lie there married a slave by whom he had a son, who was named Rich- ard Hellams, but commonly known by the name of Dick, that by his good conduct and providence, he, the said Gabriel, had succeeded in purchasing and obtaining the freedom of both himself and of his said son ; that for the last thirty years he has lived in said city of St. Louis, a free man, and so behaved as to enjoy the esteem of all its old and best citizens who have known him, and for the support of his said son, has purchased real estate in said city, and caused the title th* roof to be vested in his said son; and whereas, his said son has died wi h 'ut wife or children, and by the laws of this state, his father, the sa4 Gabriel, cannot inherit his estate; therefore, J 1.
