open, establish, widen, extend and repair streets, avenues, alleys, public
equares, drains and sewers, and to keep the same clear And in order; to
erect and maintain hospitals; to pievent the introduction of contagious
diseases, and to secure the general health of the towin; to provide for
tue prevention and extinquishmnent of fires; to levy and collect tax uponm
real and personal property in said town; but shall impose no taxc at a
higher rate than one-half of one per~centum of the assessed value of
the property; to regulate arid grade, pave and improve the streets of
said towns; to provide for the inspection of timber, building materials
and provisions to be uised or offered for sale in said town, or to be ex-
ported therefrom; to borrow money if it be necessary for grading and
paying the streets, supplying water or making other public improve-
mients in said town; to pass such ordinances for the regulation and police
of said town and its commons, as raid trustees may think necessary, and
not contrary to the laws of the land; and the said board of trustees
shall have power to pass all ordinances to carry into effect the objects
of thi's nct, and the powers herein granted, as the good of the inhabi-
tants ina, require; to impose fines and penalties for the breach of their
ordinances.
§ 4. The third, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth and twelfth
sections of an act to ineorporale the town of Parkville, iq hereby incor-
porated into, and made ai part of this act.
§ 5. Any justice of the peace in which the town of Lebanon is situ-
ated, may appoint judges to- elect the first trustees under this act.
S 6. So much of an act entitled an act for the incor oration of
towns, and to pievent the circulation of' town and city scrip, ' approved
March 7, 1845, as is not in conflict with the provisioes of the foregoing
act, is hereby made applicable to the same.
This act is hereby made a public act, and to be in force from and af-
ter its passage.

He it eiactedby- tIhe goeralassembly of the State of Missouri, asfollows:
1. That district of country known by the name of the town of Roan-
oket, lying within the counties of' Howard and Randolph. and state of Mit-
otri,, shall be and continue a body politic anti corporate, by the name and
style of the inhabitants of the town of Roanoke, and by that name the in-
habitants of said town and their successors shall be known in law, have con-
tiunal succession, may sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, defend and
be defended in all courts of law and equity; may purchase, receive and hold
property, real and personal, within the limits of said town and commons
