INCORPORATIONS.

majority of all the votes given shall be for the city charter, then the said judg.
es shall determine on what day the election for city officers shall be held, which
shall not be more than two months, nor less than two weeks after the ac-
ceptance of the city charter, and said judges shall cause a notice thereof to
be published in some newspaper printed in said limits, or by twelve adver.
tisementi posted up in as many public places in said limits,at least two weeks
before the day appointed for such election; but if the charter shall not be
accepted, as aforesaid, the said county court of Lafayette county shall, from
time to time, whenever they shall be petitioned, to that effect, byfifty house.
holders residing within the limits, appoint judges and cause an election to
be held, as aforesaid, for or againsl the charter, until the charter shall be ac-
capted, the judges always giving two weeks Previous notice, in the manner
aforesaid, of the time and place of such election. And when the charter
shall be accepted, as aforesaid, the judges of the-election shall proceed as
herein before provided in case of acceptance, and the city officers, who shall
be elected at the first election, shall continue in oflice until the first Monday
in June then next following and until their successors are duly elected and
qualified; and after the first general election for city oflicers, all subsequent
elections therefor shall be regulated byjudges appointed and provisions mada
by the mayor and board of councilmen then in office, and it is hereby made
their duty to appoint such judges, and make such provisions, from year to
year, at their last stated meeting prior to the time of such regular election.
If this charter shall not be accepted in the manner provided herein, within
the space of two years from the time of holding the first election for its re-
ception or rejection, it shall be null and void. Provided, however, that the
General Assembly may, at any time, repeal, alter, amend or modify this act
at pleasure.                              APPROVED, March 8, 1845.
