S:CTION Sscmon Penalty for enticing or decoying a slave out Coiponsntion to be paid to pornonsupprehen. of this State. . .(l.. -... ding runaway slaves out of the limits of Penalty for aiding and abetting sucht felony. 2 this State.. . - .. .3 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Missouri, as follows: § 1. If any person shall entice, decoy or carry away, out of this State, any slave belonging to another, with intent to deprive the owner thereof of the services of such slave, or with intent to procure or effect the freedom of such slave, lie shall be considered guilty of grand larceny, and, upon conviction, shall be punished by imprisonment in the penitentiary, not less than five years. § 2. It any person shall aid or assist, in sending or taking out of this State, any slave, or in persuading or enticing any slave belonging to another, with intent to effect, cause or procure the freedom of such slave, or to deprive the owner thereof of the services of such slave, he shall be considered guilty of grand larceny, and upon conviction, shall be punished by imprisonment in the penitentiary not less than five years. § 3. If any person shall appiehend, beyond the limits of this State, any run- away slave, and shall deliver such slave to the owner, or other person entitled to receive such slave, or to any jailor within this State, according to the provi- sions of an act concerning runaway slaves, approved March the 19th 1835, (he) shall be entitled to receive fifty dollars, as a reward, and ten cents for every mile of such distance as he shall necessarily convey such slave, or such sum in lieu thereof, as the owner, or other person claiming such slave, may previously have offered for the same services, at the election of the person ap- prehending: to be paid by such owner or person claiming, or by the sheriff out of the proceeds of sale.
