Duty of certain ollicers to prosecute for and inform of, violations of this act. - . 13 Free negroes, citizens of another State, not affected b'y this art. - - 14 Be it enacted by the General A'ssembliy of the State of MllissIuri, as follows: § 1. That, from and afler the time specified in this act, no free negro, mulat- to or person of color, shall come into this State, on board of any steam boat, or other vessel, as a took, ste ward, mariner, or in anV umuployinent on board such steam boat or vessel, or as a passenger, or I any Iother manner; and if any steam boat, or other vessel slhall arrive at anly port, hrbor or landing on any river of this state frot any other State, having on board any such free negro, mulatto or person of color, the harbor moaster or other oflicer having charge of such port, or nly pirson or persons residing at or near said port, or any landing, shall forthwith notify the nearest judge of any circuit or county court, or justice of the peace in the county in which said port, harbor or landing is situated, or the arrival of such steam boats, or other vessel, whereupon the said judge, or justice of the peaco shall immediately issue a warrant to apprehend nnd bring every such free negro, mulatto or person of color, before him, and on the execution of such Watrrant by bringing befoie him such free negro, mulatto, or person of color, lie shall '1:fortwith coilunit him, or her, to the county jail, there to be confined until said steam boat, or vessel shall be ready to proceed to her place of destination, whei the naster, or com- mander of such steam boat or other vessel shall, by the writion permit, or order of said judge or justice of the peuce, take and carry away out of' this State every such free negro, mulatto or plroni of color, and pay the expen- ses of his or her apprehension and detention. ( 2. That the said judge Or justice of thie peace shall require, from every master, or commander of every steam ouit or vessel on board of which any such free negro, mulatto or person of color shall have been brought into this State, thuit lie give bond with securities in a sum inot to exceed five hundied dollars, for each, and every such free Inegr'o, ituilatto or person of color, to pay the expenses and charges of the arrest and detention of'every such free negro, mu- latto, or person of color, and to carry him or her away ut of this State, and if, for three days after the arrial of such steam boat, or other vessel, the master or commander thereof shall neglect to give such security, the master and. owners of such steam boat oir vessel shall jointly and severally be liable
