State House; also, to pay Daniel Sprogle, or or- der, for materials and work done on the State House, twenty-four dollars and fifty-six cents; to pay Magruder and Brother, or order, fifty-seven dollars and forty-nine cents, for sundry articles fur- nished for the use of the Legislature; also, to pay James E. Tate, or order, one hundred and eleven dollars and forty-two cents, fbr sundry articles fur- nished for the use of' the Legislature; to pay Charles G. Puckett, or order, twenty-four dollars for services rendered by himself and others, in firing a National salute on the twenty-second of February; also, to pay J. Wesley White, or or- der, thirty-three dollars and sixty-three cents for material used in firing the salute. Sec. 2. Be it enacted, That this act shall take In force. effect from the date of its passage. CHAPTER 245. AN ACT for the relief of Levin S. H. Smith, Of'rassedAlarch Worcester county. 10, 1862. WHErEAS, It is represented to this General Assem- Preamble. bly of Maryland, That a negro man, named Isaac, a slave for life, belonging to Levin S. H. Smith, of Worcester county, absconded from his owner into the State of Delaware, from which he wds brought back into this State, and is now in Worcester county; and whereas, in the opin- ion of numerous slave holders, citizens of said county, the continued presence of said slave among the slave population would not be detri- mental to the public interests, but rather cal- culated to deter his fellow slaves from abscond- ing; therefore, SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly Authorled to of Xaryland, That the said Levin S. H. Smith be retain slave and lie is hereby authorized to retain within thisin the State.
