CHAPTER 238.
Passed.M1arch AN ACT to prohibit the sale or gift of intoxicat-

tional section to Article sixty-six of the Code of
Public General Laws, relating to dealing with
Slaves.
Additional  SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
sections.  of Maryland, That nineteenth and twentieth sec-
tions of Article sixty-six of the Code of Public
General Laws, be and the same are hereby amended
by the addition of' the following sections to said
Article, to be inserted between the twentieth and
twenty-first sections:
Saleofliquor  That it shall not be lawful for any person in this

hlblte .   State, except as hereinafter mentioned, to sell,
give or administer, to any Slave, any spirituous
liquor or intoxicating drink; and every person of-
fending against the provisions of this act, shall be
deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall upon
conviction thereof before a Justice of the Peace, or
Court having criminal jurisdiction, be punished by
a fine of not less than twenty-five dollars.
Sale alowed  That it shall and may be lawful for any Slave
In tli  case Of having a license in writing from his or her master,
license, &c. mistress or employers, to buy or receive from any
person: having spirituous liquor or intoxicating
drinks, such quantity ti' the same as the said li-
cense or permission may authorize.
Appeal.    That any person deeming himself or herself
aggrieved by the judgment of a Justice of the
Peace under this act, shall hav 'lie right of ap-
peal to the Circuit Court of the county, as in
