CHAPTER 123.
Passed Mar. AN ACT amendatory of an act entitled, an act to
continue the corporate existence of the several
Banking Institutions therein mentioned, passed at
January session, eighteen hundred and fifty-three,
chapter four hundred and forty-one, so far as re-
lates to the Merchants' Bank of Baltimore.
Alectings.   SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General ./ssembly
of Maryland, That in case at any meeting of the
Board of Directors of the Merchants' Bank of Bal-
tinore, which has been continued by the act passed
at January session, eighteen hundred and fifty-three,
chapter four hundred and forty-one, a majority of the
Directors shall not be convened by reason of sick-
ness or other cause, then the President of the Bank
shall be authorised to stand in the place of any ab-
sent Director, and to act as such, if thereby a quo-
rum can be had ; and in case of sickness or absence
of the President, and on his failing to nominate in
writing a Director to act in his place, the Board shall
elect from their own number a President to serve du-
ring such absence.
In force.    SEC. 2. .nd be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect ftor the date of its passage.
