CHAPTER 208.
AN ACT to provide for thb repairs of the public roads  Passed
in Dorchester county.             Mar. 10, 1854.
WHEREAs, The present mode of repairing tile public Preamble.
roads in Dorchester county, has been found inade-
quate for the purpose intended, and it is deemed ne-
cessary that proper regulations should forthwith be
made fQr keeping said roads in repair ; Therefore,
SEoTIoN 1. Be it enacted by the Genaral Assembly Duty of sau-

public roads in the said county well and sulficiently
cleared and grubbed fit for travelling, twenty feet wide
at the least, except in such parts thereof where the
county commissioners shall allow or direct the said road
to be of a less width, and to make and keep good and
substantial bridges over all the heads of rivets, creeks,
branches and swainps,.where the same shall be necessa-
ry for the convenient and easy passage of travellers, with
their wagons, carts, carriages, horses and cattle, and to
remove all nuisances which ziay obstruct or annoy their
passage, and well and sufficiently to causeway ll and
singular such places in and upon the said road as shall
require the same.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That if any of the said Forfeiture for
supervisors shall not well and sutfliciently clear, grub, neglect,
amend and repair the said several and respective toads
committed to their charge, within a reasonable time
after the same shall be out of tepair, or shall not make
and keep in repair and good order, substantial bridges
over the heads of rivers, creeks, branches or swamps,
whee the same shall be necessary as aforesaid, or shall
not remove all nuisances from the said roads, or shall
not well and sufficiently causeway, all and singular
such places in and upon the said road as shall require
the same, or shall permit or suffer any fallen trees or
other obstructions to remnin in or across any of the said
public roads for the space of two days after notice thereof
Or shall neglect to fell or cause to be felled and removed
all decayed or dead trees on either side of the said pub-
