Aind be it enacted, That nothing herein con- Rankihgt'lbt. ained shall be so construed as to authorise or empower bid. said corporation to issue any notes, token or certificate, or evidence of debt to be used as a currency; and that nothing herein contained shall be so construed as to deny the right of the General Assembly of Maryland to repeal this act at its pleasure. Jan. 12, 1 4 . ly Jail. 1VIE~u¢^s, many innocent persons together with the Preamble, guilty, are or may be confined in Prince George's county jail, for a long period of time before they can be tried; and whereas, the fees now allowed the sheriff'of said county for keeping and maintaining said p~isoners while so colined, in3 a decent and comfortable manner, are wholly inadequate; and whereas, humanity requires *that a proper allowance should be made by said county, for their decent and comfortable support-Therefore, SECTION 1. Be it ciacted by the General lssembly Oj Alloivahte Itb sherifffot the Maryland, That from and after the passage of this ac, naintenance the sherift of Prince George's county be, and heis here- of prisoners by authorised to charge the sum of thirty cents per day, :in jail. for the keeping and maintaining of each and -every pri- soner, who is now or shall hereafter be confinted in Prince George's county jail, by any legal authority issu. 'ing out of Prince George's county court, or any justice 'of the peace, or magistrates court, to be paid for by a levy upon said county, except persons confined for debt$ and slaves, who shall be confined for other purposes than criminal.
