WHEREAS, Samuel, Lucy, Ann, Polly and Elizabeth' people of colour have represented to this General Assembly, that thev were manumated by a certain William Jinkins, late of Loudon county in the Commonwealth of Virginia, byhis last will and testament, nd that among other provisions in said will, in favor of the said Samucl, Lucy, Ann, Polly and Elizabeth the testator directed certain sums due him on bonds to be applied to the purchase of Land, for the use of the said Samuel, Lucyj Ann, Polly and' Elizabeth during their lives, all which appears to be true; they further represent, that the personal representatives of the said William Jinkins, did purchase with the amount of the said bonds, a small Island in the Potomac river for them, the said Samuel, Lucy, Ann, Polly and Elizabeth to be held by them during their lives, but inasmuch as all Islands are held to be within the State of Maryland, it being dottbtful whether they the said Samuel, Lucy, Ann, Polly and Elizabeth can have the use and occupancy of said 1slad without the aid of the legislature; Therefore, Permission Section, 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ofaryland, That the said Samuel,. Lucy, Ann, Polly and Elizabeth, are hereby permitted to reside in the State of Mlaryland, upon the terms heretofore allowed to free negrou-s by the laws of this state, and to have, hold, occupy, possess and enjoy to them, their heirs, executors, adminis- trators, or assigns, any property which they may have become enti- tied to, by the grant, gift, divise pr bequest of any person or persons whatsoever. rE:.erntcd, Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That they shall not be prosecuted in any form whatever for any fortriture or pcnalty already incurred by reason of their emigrating or settling on the'Island aforesaid, and they arc hereby declared to be exempt from the same. Trustee, Section. 1, Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Governor, by und with the advice of the Council, is author- ised and empowered to appoint a trustee to sell the remainder of the Nanticoke Indian lands, lying in Dorchester county, upon such terms as the Governor and Council may prescribe and direct. Boad, 2. And be it enacted, That the trustee appointed in virtue of this act, before lie proceeds to exercise any of the powers vested in him by virtue of said appointment, shall give bond to the state of Mary- land, in such penalty and with such security, as the Governor and Council shall approve, for the faithful performance of all and singular the powers, by this act directed to be vested in him. 1.roviso. 3.
