Sprlg'g, of Allegany county. v-_ Bi, V1 VNAC'TI? 1lBy the General Assembly of AMrqlaynd, That at Passed Jan. 4, • 1822. any time after the passage of this act, Michael C Sprigg, of AllM- Aay import gany county, in said state, be, and he is hereby authorised, to bring his slave Gen. into this state, and then, to retain ats slaves, a certain negro woman ny &her child. named Genny, and her child named Butler, by him purchased in the state of Virginia; any law to the contrary notwithstanding; Provuded nev'rthtless, That nothing in this act contained, shall be Proviso. construed to authorise a disposition of said slaves, except in cases of disposition by last will and testament, and dispositions by law for bona fide debts, or consequent upon intestacy, in less than three whole years alter the passage of this act; And provided moreover, That the said Michael C. Sprigg shall cause the saidi negroes to he registered in the records of Allegany cotnty, within six months after they shall have been brought into this state. That Charles Key Bruce was born in this state, and that lie left the same for E'urope, before the year seventeen hundred and seventy- three, to be cducated; that he there devoted himself to the study of medicine, and in very early life left there tot the East Indies, wlere he was engaged in profcssional pursuits; that his father and farmily remained in this country, and were active supporters of the strug- gle in which the United States were engaged for independence; that the said Charles Key Brucc has lately returned to this state, with a view of taking up his permanent residence herin; that his father Nornhand Bruce, willed him considerable property, an[ that the said Charles Key Bruce is fearful lest his title to thIe same may be questioned, and has prayed that this general assembly may, for his security, pass a law confirming his title in and to the same: St.c. 1.
