To appropriate five hundredthousand dollars, or so much thereof as may
be necessary to pay for the hireor loss of slaves and other property,
1osby death or otherwise, while employed on the public works with-
in the State.
Appropriatinn  SECTION 1. Beit enacted by the Senate and House of Representatires
of the State of Louisiana in General Assembly convpned: That the sum
of five hundred thousand dollars, is hereby appropriated out of the Gcne-
ral fund, or so much thereof as may be necessary, to pay the owners the
value of their slaves and other property, lost by death or otherwise, while
exhployed on the public works within the State, or who were lost in con-
sequence of any disease contracted while so engaged, or who died while
going to the work, with divease contracted after being pressed or sent into
service, or who died with disease contracted while in the service after
returning home, or by accident while in service, or while going to or re-
turning therefrom after being pressed or sent, and for the labor of said
slalee while so employed.
Evidenoe of  SECTION 2. Be it further enacted 4c., That the Auditor before on-
-tholossofprp diting any claim for losses contemplated in the-first section of this Act,
tt et bhe f shall require evidence of the loss of the property, the value of which is
ditor.      claimed; 2nd of its value; 3d, that it was pressed or sent into the public
service. He must also be satisfied that the owner or agent was not at
fault, or in any way chargeable with the loss.
SECTION 3. Beit further enacted 4-c., That this act tnke ifhet and
be in force from and after its passage.

To authorize a session of the Supreme Court to be holden in the city of
Shreveport or other places.
Annual see  SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-
gion  the  tives of the State of Louisiana in General Assembly convcned; That
Sreme'Court ait shall be lawful, and is made the duty of- the Judges of the Supromo
brevport.  Court, to hold a session of the Court in the city of Shreveport, once a
year, or oftener, if the public interest requires it, for the trial of criminal
cases, cases of haboas corpus, and all other cases, where the constitution-
elity, or onforcement of any of the revenue laws, or the laws governing
and relative to the militia of the State is in question, and for this pur-
pose, such cases during the war, shall be returnable to the Court, set ting
in the city of Stireveport.
