To authorize the citizens of the several parishes in this State wherein
slaves are impressed by the State or Confederate States, to select a
suitable person or persons not liable to military duty, to supervise
them, and to exercise a general supervision over said slaves in all
things affecting their health and comfort.

pointed by t in all cases where slaves shall be impressed by the State or Confederate
ovners.     States, the owners, agents or overseers of such slaves, shall have the
right to select, whenever the number exceeds thirty slaves, from any
one parish, and for each additional number of thirty slaves, a suitable
person or persons ijot liable to military duty, to givea personal supervision
over said slaves in all things affecting their health and comfort, not in-
consistent with the rules and regulations prescribed by the authorities of
the State or Confederate States governments.
Compensation  SECTION 2. Be it further enacted 3c., That said person or persons
of said over- so selected to superintend the slaves so impressed, shall be entitled to
twenty cents for the first twenty slaves, and ten cents for all above that
number, per day, for each slave under his supervision, to be paid by the
State of Louisiana, in the same manner as the wages of the slaves are
paid.
Sec. 3. Be it further enacted 4-c., That this act take effect from
and after its passage.
