Recorders and  SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Represenatilves of
Xotaries, in thb the State of Louisiava, in General Assembly convened, That it shall be law-
authorized to ap* ful fOr the Recorder and each and every Notary Public in the parish of
Point      Caddo, to appoint one or more Deputies, to assist him in the making of
protests and delivery of notices of protests of bills of exchange and promis-
sory notes; Provided, That said Recorder and each Notary shall be per-
sonally responsible for the acts of each Deputy employed by him; each
Deputy shall take an oath faithfilly to perform his duties as such. The
certificate of notice of protests shall state by whom made or served.
When to take  SEc. 2. Be it further enacted, &c., That this Act shall take effect from

town of Harrisonburg, approved March fourteenth, eighteen hundred nud tbirty-sir.
Town of Harri.  SECTIOx 1. Be it enacted by the Senate aul House of Representatives of
u            c In  the State of Louisiana, in General Assembly convened, That all the freehol-
and Its powers. ders and inhabitants residing within the incorporate limits of the town of
Harrisonburg, are hereby created a body politic and corporate, by the name
and style of the Board of Selectmen of the town of Harrisonburg, and by
that name they and their successors may have a common seal, and shall be
in law capable of purchasing, holding, inheriting and conveying any estate,
real or personal, for the use of said town, and be capable of being sued and
suing in all courts whatever, and in all manner of actions; of raising money
by taxation on lands and negroes, according to their valuation, which tax
shall never exceed the sum of two hundred dollars ; of taxing tavern keep-
ers, retailers of goods, hawkers and peddlers; Provided, The tax on each
shall never exceed fifteen dollars; and of taxing billiard tables, grog-shops,
and all dealers in liquors, in any quantity less than a barrel, in a sum not
to exceed two hundred and fifty dollars for each ; of erecting such public
building as may be necessary for the use of said town; of leasing, mana-
ging or farming the ferry within the limits of the town; of compelling the
inhabitants to work on the landings and roads and streets within the limits
of said town; of establishing and regulating patrols, and providing for the
punishment of vagrants and disorderly persons, who may be found in the
