              No. 276.]                      AN   ACT
              To provide for the goverunient of the town of Monroe, and the administration of the affairs
                                               thereof.

    Incorporated SECTION 1. Be it enacted bly the Senate and House of Reyresentatives of
 lbnits of tmetown the State of Louisiata, in General Assembly convened, That the inhabitants of
   o          that tract of country lying on the cast bank of the Ouachita River, in the
             parish of Ouachita, bounded  as follows, to wit: Beginning on the bank of
             said river at the lower corner of what is called the Bry and Essick saw-mill
             lot, thence cast with the lower line of said lot to the public road; thence
             with  said road to the upper line of Henry Bry's plantation; thence along
             said line east to a point from which a line at right angles, and as nearly
             parallel to the river as can be, and include the residence and premises form-
             erly owned  and occupied by William  Shannon,  and the residence of Hypo-
             lite Filhol to the lower line of A. G. Breard's plantation ; thence with said
             Breard's lower  line to the river, in such direction as will include the resi-
             dences of Mrs. E. W.  Warfield, R. F. McGuire  and Lewis F. Lamry  within
             said corporation, thence with the river to the place of the beginning, be,
  ncorporation. and are hereby incorporated as a municipal corporation under the name and
             style of the town of Monroe.
  MeonIo or a   Src. 2. Be it further enacted, &c., That in order for the government and
'freamirtr, Town police of said corporation there shall be elected on the first Monday of May
or, Colector and next, and every year thereafter, unless a ditlerent time be fixed by the Trus-
   .rovided for  tees, by the qualified voters of said town from among themselves, a Treas-
             urer, a Towzi Constable and Assessor, and Collector and seven Trustees, in
             the manner  and with the powers hereinafter set forth.

             different time he fixed by thle Trustees, by the qualified voters of said town
             from  anong  themselves, a Mayor of said  town of Monroe, with the pow-
             ers and duties hereinafter set forth.

n and conducted appointed to hold the general elections in the State, and shall be conducted
             according to the laws of the State regulating elections in all respects, except
             the returns, which shall be made to the office of the Clerk of the Court of the
