              State of Louisiana, in General Assembly conrened, That the said act of sale
              made as aforesaid, be and the same is hereby legalized, and the title to said
  Wben this act property therein sold to the said Michael Boyce, be and the same is hereby
  sk.. er ac. confirmed and made perfect, any law to the contrary notwithstanding.
                SEc. 2. Be it further enacted, &c., That this act shall take effect from

             Relative to free persons of color coming into the State from other States or foreign countries.

  Personsorcolor SecTioN 1. Be it enacted by the Senate an(I House of Representatives of the
coming into tbo State of Louisiana, in General Asseibly convened, That any free person of

to be lodged in color, 0m1g into the State on board of any vessel, steamer, or other water-
prison.      craft, trading or plying out of the limits of this State,-shall, upon the arri-
             val of  said vessel, steamer, or water-craft, he forthwith lodged  in the
             parish jail, and shall remain therein until the vessel, steamer, or other water-
             craft, on board of which said free person of color arrived, shall be ready to
             leave port.
  Bond required Se.  2. Be it fhrther enacted, &c., That the jail-keeper, on receiving in-

certain caes. by the captain or  aster of the ship, steamer, or w'ater-eraft, on: board of
             which  he or sie canme, shall require from said captain or master, a written
             affndarit and hond of fivo hundred dollars, conditioned that the vessel lie
             commands   will leave within  not more  than twenty-four  hours, and  that
             during that time the said free person of color shall not be allowed to go on
Penaty.      shore under  penalty  of five hundred  dollars; said  penalty recoverable
             against said eaptain by civil action, with privilege oin his vessel, in tihe name
             of the Charity Hospital  of New  Orleans, one-half for the henefit of said
             Hospital and  the other half for the benefit of the informer, who shall not,
             by reason of his interest, he deemed incompetent as a witness against the
             offender.
  Prison fees to SEc. 3. Br it Arther enacted, &c., That the captain or master of the ves-

            the  sum of forty cents a day for each and every day that  said free person
            of  color shall have been in custody, without any other charges whatever.
